RE-STEP

Step of Mind Ltd. developed a computerized system named "Re-step" for training and recovery of walking skills based on contemporary achievements in neuroscience.

The system consists of a pair of shoes and a computer program. With the help of four pistons located in the soles of the shoes, "Re-step" shoes chaotically and unpredictably alter the angle of the foot during the walk.  The patient has to cope with these changes, which are getting more complex in accordance with the instructions of the physiotherapist. The training is similar to walking on uneven surfaces, such as rocks or sand.  The activity of the central nervous system, responsible for walking, is stimulated during this walk. This occurs due to changes in the "relief" of the surface, and by solving cognitive problems that are part of the training.

It was found that stimulation training of this type is very effective in restoration of walking skills for people with brain damage.

Improvement of walking skills is an individual process, and its results can be seen during training.  Certain changes are noticeable even after a few sessions.  The patient can keep his balance better and can walk some distance outside the room. However, preserving the achievements in walking and applying those changes in daily life requires a long training course.

Rehabilitation with the help of “Re-step” is recommended for patients with walking dysfunction resulting from brain damage after a stroke (hemiparesis), or as a result of different injuries, as well as for adolescents and adults with cerebral palsy and older people with age-related postural disorders.

Prior to the beginning of the rehabilitation process physiotherapists evaluate the patient's condition and his capacity for training.  The treatment course consists of 22 sessions, 2 sessions per week; during the session walking in Re-step shoes lasts from a few minutes during the first sessions up to 30 minutes at the end of the course of training.

In addition, the general exercises to warm up and strengthen the muscles, as in sports training, are executed in accordance with the capacity of the patient. The training course is conducted by an experienced physiotherapist and takes place under the supervision of a physician.

AposTherapy

AposTherapy is a new, state of the art Israeli invention in the field of orthopedics and sport medicine. AposTherapy is based on biomechanical system (Apos shoes) that “teaches” the muscles to work properly, reducing the load on the affected joints, improving the posture and correcting the walking.

This is a non-surgical method of treatment of pain in the knees and back, caused by various diseases, surgeries and injuries.

This method allows optimal distribution of the load on the leg and back. This reduces the burden on aching joints as a result the patient feels significant pain relief.

Selection of shoes made by physiotherapists; each patient undergoes a special diagnostics.

Thanks to Apos shoes the following problems can be solved:

  • Reduces the load on the painful point;
  • Restored symmetry of the body;
  • The person becomes accustomed to walking properly both barefoot and with type of shoes.

Numerous studies in orthopedics field  demonstrated that AposTherapy is an effective method of pain relief and functional improvement. This method is registered in the Israeli Ministry of Health and included in clinical guidelines of physicians in Knee Osteoarthritis Union. Reuth is an official representative of AposTherapy in Israel. AposTherapy complies with European standards (CE) and the requirements of the US (FDA).

AlerG Antigravity Treadmill

The AlterG Anti-Gravity Treadmill is a novel method for facilitating more effective physical therapy and orthopedicrehabilitation. The advantages of this method include:

  • Reduction of gravity's impact by selecting any "body weight" between 20% and 100% of the patient's actual  body weight by 1% increments
  • Rehabilitation of  lower extremity injuries with less pain and less impact
  • Improved mobility, strength and safety for those with neurological conditions
  • A safe way to lose weight and exercise more intensively while unweighted
  • Training without pain and reudction of the stress on joints and muscles

The innovative AlterG Anti-Gravity Treadmill is a new development in physical therapy rehabilitation. Whether a patient is dealing with lower body injuries, chronic pain or neurological conditions that inhibit mobility, he can benefit from the unweighting capabilities of AlerG. The Anti-Gravity Treadmill helps patients with a broad spectrum of physical disabilities to achieve their personal health, wellness or performance goals.

The AlterG Difference

With its unique unweighting capabilities, the Anti-Gravity Treadmill allows the patient and his physical therapist to move the rehabilitation program forward by:

  • Facilitating walking or running with no pain while maintaining a normal gait
  • Reducing stress on joints and injured areas of the lower body
  • Building patient confidence and ability to walk or run longer and recover faster with less pain
VIDEO THERAPY

Reuth has recently inaugurated an online physical therapeutic platform for that provides therapists and patients with an online training experience in fields of orthopedic, neurological and geriatric rehabilitation available anywhere anytime. The internet-based "on-line therapist" program enables Reuth-based professional therapists to evaluate treat and monitor their patients from a distance while boosting the patients' adherence to a maximum level. On the other side is the patient who can practice certain exercises or other perform certain activities which he learned in the recent therapist session in the privacy of his own home; this technology may reduce the number of needed visits to the therapist, especially during the very cold or very hot months when it is difficult for many older people to be travel extensively to get to their therapy appointment. For the patient, the system provides a type of game which helps train the patient and improve his motor functions and at the same time, provides the therapist with an efficient tool for communicating with their patient and monitoring their progress on-line.
